A day in the life of Trotec
For a week during July, Mark a fifteen-year-old student joined the team at Trotec UK’s head office in Washington, Tyne and Wear, as part of his work experience placement, during which time he worked in each of Trotec UK’s departments, and in his own words, ‘learned about all aspects of the business and everything it entails!’
Mark began his week in the Trotec materials warehouse, where he learned how collect and store materials and laser machines and was subsequently involved in despatch, where he discovered the importance of sending the right product to the right client.
He later tackled some of the administrative work that drives the operation of the Trotec warehouse, working with staff from the materials office and discovering the priority Trotec places on customer service. Mark commented “This part of the business was especially interesting as it as it enabled me to learn about the various processes that need to take place in order to get an order out”.
He then moved on to the marketing department, where he saw how Trotec works hard to keep customers and potential customers informed through the various media channels including road shows and the Trotec website. He also received his first taste of digital marketing, when he was tasked to produce an article for the Trotec UK website, which also involved taking photographs and gathering quotes.
Finally, Mark rounded off his week by learning about Trotec’s laser cutting, engraving and marking systems and found, to his delight, how easy they were to use. He said: “Even though I was only using the machine for five minutes I was able to engrave my own pen with ease!”
