When Reliance Medical, the UK’s leading trade distributor of surgical dressings, healthcare products, medical equipment and first aid supplies, moved from Congleton to a 25,000sq.ft warehousing facility in Kidsgrove, it needed eye-catching branding.

The company thus commissioned Signs Express (Stoke) to create a signage solution that reflected the significance of this development, while also symbolising Reliance Medical’s growth, aspirations and optimism for the future.

When designing the signs, the team at Signs Express (Stoke), which was established almost 20 years ago and is owned and operated by Craig Tiley, had a lot to consider. In the first instance the sheer size of the building meant that any signage was in danger of being overshadowed and this, together with the need to create signs that met the relevant regulatory requirements threw up significant challenges.

Signs Express first had to calculate how the space could be used to best and most effective advantage and eventually decided to reproduce a 10m x8m version of the Reliance Medical logo for installation on the side of the building. As any illumination method would have required planning permission, it also decided to craft the logo from Metamark MD5 vinyl and to add a matt laminate to achieve a more professional and durable finish.

Before the Signs Express team even ventured on site, it undertook hours of planning and preparation in order to ensure that the work was completed in the most efficient way possible, before outputting a total of 58 sq.m of printed vinyl for application directly to the building.

Commenting on the installation, Craig Tiley said, ‘’Reliance Medical was a great client to work with and we when we arrived on site, it had already prepped the area, cornered off the specific space we needed, opened up barriers so our vehicles could easily gain access and had even notified the company next door that the work was planned.”

After two and a half days, the project was completed and the text and the circular logo, which wrapsaround the building, went on seamlessly, providing the requisite level of impact.

Confirming his delight with the end-result Jonathan Williams, Design & Product Development Manager at Reliance Medical said: ‘’The sign looks great and the support and guidance Signs Express offered not only on production and manufacturing techniques, but also compliance and planning permission requirements was invaluable in helping us to achieve the brand exposure we envisioned, while also keeping regulatory complications to a minimum. It was a real pleasure to work with Craig and the team. “
