A new look for a good cause

A new look for a good cause

One of Plymouth’s leading local charities, St Luke’s Hospice has recently rebranded with a little help from local signmaker Signs Express (Plymouth).

St Luke’s, which in the last 12 months has cared for over 3,531 local people with life-limiting illnesses, has 30 shops that currently generate £1m profit each year, thus making a helpful contribution to St. Luke’s £10 million overall annual running costs. However the shops, located across Devon and Cornwall, were beginning to look rather tired and out of date and were in dire need of a revamp.

When it came to selecting a company to provide the signage, the decision was, according to Rob Maltby, St Luke’s Head of Communications and Marketing,a ‘no-brainer’! He explained: ‘’We have been a client of Sign Express (Plymouth) for five years and have always been impressed by both the exceptional quality and level of creative inspiration the team there has been able to deliver, so we knew that we could trust it with this latest commission.

Two months on, the project is now almost complete, with the installation of the signage at the initial 14 shops taking just two weeks to install. Signs Express Plymouth worked closely with St Luke’s designer to devise a stylish new logo, whilst also ensuring that the materials selected for the project meet the hospice’s strict budgetary requirements.

The signage comprises a combination of aluminium composite tray signs with digitally printed graphics and aluminium composite flat panels, which are used to complement the different shop fascias.

Rob Maltby continued “Signs Express also produced internal branding features for some shops, including the installation of a very distinctive feature wall, that cleverly helps customers to make the link between their purchase with the care that we are able to provide. All ways round, the guys really delivered.”

Signs Express Plymouth has completed multiple projects for St Luke’s Hospice, ranging from the provision of signage for a childrens’ playroom and outdoor trail, to the creation of a large chalkboard display. Chris Reilly, the centre’s Managing Director, said: ‘’St Luke’s is a fantastic charity and as well as fulfilling its signage needs, we are also proud to support it through fund-raising events that have included sailing and cycling challenges. It is good to feel part of the local community and helping towards such a worthwhile cause’’.
