A really big adventure

A really big adventure
In this most challenging of years, Steve Wallwork and Colin Washbourne have bravely established Ad-Venture Sign and Image, which specialises in the production of signs, print and displays to companies operating in both their local area and beyond.

Steve explained: “My previous company was a large signmaker, which unfortunately had to stop trading last March, but despite the fact that it was probably the worst possible time to start a new business, Colin and I decided that since we had the knowledge, skills, and contacts to set up a similar but smaller version of the same, we should just go ahead and do it anyway!

“We also felt that we’d develop our own unique USP by concentrating our initial efforts on other companies that are also just setting up like ourselves.”

Thus Ad-Venture Sign and Image was duly formed and set about equipping itself for business. Based in Consett, the company decided to approach Your Print Specialists in nearby Newcastle. Steve confided: “YPS had previously supplied a Mimaki JV333 printer to my previous company, so I knew from personal experience that we could trust it to deliver what we needed and as it turned out, we couldn’t have made a better choice. YPS is very supportive, with the added bonus that it is virtually on our doorstep if ever we need any help or advice. The team there always gives a very speedy and positive response to any questions we have and have also been extremely helpful in terms of understanding our business requirements and identifying and specifying the right equipment for our needs.”

As a start-up business, Ad-Venture’s working space was limited, so after discussions with YPS, Steve and Colin agreed that the best solution to their equipment dilemma was an integrated print and cut machine from Mimaki, plus a laminator from Vivid.

Steve continued: “The Mimaki CJV150 is ideal for us, because it delivers fantastic quality print output and accurate cutting all in the same machine. Not only does this save vital space, but it also saves time in our workflow and enables us to schedule jobs from start to finish without intervention.”

The company specialises in the production of a broad range of cut vinyl, Foamex and Dibond signage solutions, as well as corporate graphics, vehicle wraps and safety signage. Now, armed with the Mimaki CJV150, the Vivid Laminator and a further cutter for use with the board products, Ad-Venture Sign and Image is well placed to deliver both simple and complex signage solutions, quickly and cost-effectively.

In addition, Ad-Venture has also invested in the YPS Business in a Box, which comprises an Epson SC F-500 24” wide dye-sublimation printer and a PixMax heat press. Steve said: “We looked at this solution and felt that it offered us something a bit different. For companies that are looking for very high quality, tamper-proof signage, the Epson solution facilitates printing directly onto objects, meaning the images cannot be peeled or scratched off. This provides us with even greater flexibility and further extends the range of services that we can offer and thus enables us to discuss a much broader range of applications with our customers.”

Georgia Brown, Sales Director at YPS, added: “Ad-Venture Sign and Image offers a great combination of a start-up company that is staffed with experienced sign and print practitioners, which we believe is a real recipe for success. We are delighted to support it with the supply of a range of printing solutions that will enable it to create and develop a loyal customer base by providing high quality and versatile sign and graphics solutions.”

In conclusion, Steve Wallwork observed: “It’s very early days for us, but with the support we have received from YPS and the positive feedback we have had from customers, we are steadily establishing ourselves and already, things are looking very positive for the future.”
