A Roland S-Series UV-LED opens doors in Cardiff

Genesis Marketing & Events has big ideas for its new Roland DG VersaUV LEJ-640 S-Series UV-LED belt printer, the first of the new S-Series family of machines to be installed in Wales.

The company originally specialised in event management, before later expanding into branding and signage and now counts the Volvo Ocean Race and 2017 UEFA Champions League Final among the events that it has recently provided branding for. It also works with a number f retail and commercial customers, thus leaving its mark across Cardiff and the surrounding area.

In the first few days following its installation at Genesis Marketing’s Cardiff-based premises, the S-Series, which prints directly on to rigid substrates, rapidly accelerated the company’s production of signage boards, as it eliminates the need to print and apply self-adhesive vinyl. However, Andrew Owen, who set up the business in 2007, has plans to explore exciting new areas too.

He explained: “We had originally been looking at the Roland LEJ-640 UV hybrid printer as it offers direct printing onto practically any substrate in CYMK, white and gloss and even textures. However, during an open day at Roland’s Creative Centre, the S-Series caught my eye; it does everything the LEJ does, but its size means you can also print larger pieces, such as doors.

“And it’s really going to open doors for us too. We’ve already experimented with many different substrates, including wood, glass, plastic, canvas, MDF, leather and ceramic tiles.”

Genesis Marketing’s clients include local historical buildings, such as Cardiff Market, the National Museum of Wales and Cardiff Castle, and Andrew has already used the new S-Series printer to output the Castle’s logo directly onto the dining tables of The Keep Terrace Bistro.

In addition, the S-Series will enable the business to complete more work in-house that was formerly outsourced, such as printing Braille on signage. This is achieved by printing gloss varnish in layers and building up accurate, 3D textures. Genesis Marketing also intends to use the printer’s white ink function to print more window graphics, something that is very much in demand during the October-March period when the company’s core exhibition and event graphics business is typically slower.

The VersaUV S-Series UV-LED belt printer is ideal for use with myriad applications and pushes the boundaries of UV printing. It can print directly onto virtually any material, even thin and heat-sensitive media, and objects up to 235mm in height and 100kg/sqm in weight, thus opening up profitable new revenue streams for businesses such as Genesis Marketing.
