CIM Signs & Graphics scores a first for East Anglia

Norwich based CIM Signs & Graphics has become the first sign and graphics business in East Anglia to invest in a Canon Océ Colorado 1650 wide-format printer, which it anticipates, will increase the speed of its production four-fold.

The Colorado 1650 is a four-colour UV LED roll-to-roll inkjet printer that offers a print resolution of up to 1800dpi. It features Canon’s UVgel printing technology that delivers two print modes, offering a choice of either a velvety matte or a glossy finish, independent of the media being used. Suitable for producing banners, bespoke wallpaper, large format graphics and posters at a significantly faster rate than competing machines, output from the Colorado 1650 is instantly dry to the touch and can thus be processed immediately without the need for gassing out.

CIM was awarded a £10,000 grant from the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) Growing Business Fund, which enabled the company to purchase the new machine. The LEP Growing Business Fund offers grants up to £500,000 to businesses operating in Norfolk and Suffolk that are looking to grow and create further jobs.

Commenting on his company’s latest purchase, which is also its sixth large format printer, Managing Director Mark Baker said: “This new machine will enable us to further improve the service and turnaround times that we can offer to our customers. It’s very exciting to be the first company in East Anglia to offer this kind of print and we can’t wait to put the Colorado 1650 through its paces.”

In 2018, CIM, which services the graphic requirements of such clients as QD Group, Bluespace, Mattressman, Broadland Housing, Gasway, and Norfolk Wildlife Trust, acquired the next door premises in order to expand the company’s vehicle graphics facilities by 30 percent, making it one of the largest facilities for this kind of work in the region. In the same year, the company also installed a new Rollsroller flatbed applicator, plus two additional wide format printers and a laminator, all of which have helped to increase the output of printed media for applications such as signs, exhibition graphics, point of sale displays and bespoke wall coverings – all products that continue to grow in popularity amongst its customers.
