Fatree5 takes on the sportswear world and wins
As a veteran of the motocross circuit, Paul Butler, was so disappointed with the quality of the riders’ clothing he decided to establish his own company, Fatree5 to design and manufacture durable, functional and clearly branded garments.
Explaining how the company evolved, Paul explained: “I’ve always been at the forefront of motocross. I go to all the events and, because my children are also involved now, I know just what the kids like. I’ve always thought that the quality of the clothing could be better and, when, three years ago, I started making my own everything snowballed really quickly, which is how Fatree5 came into being.
The key to Paul’s success was the investment in two Roland printing systems at the outset. He acquired a Texart RT-640 dye-sublimation printer customised for Fatree5 with fluorescent inks and a TrueVIS SG-300 combination printer/cutter, both of which were purchased from Roland reseller Xpres.
In addition to the motocross clothing, the printers are also used to produce myriad other items too, including graphics, signage, stickers, flags, banners and parasols. Furthermore, Fatree5 also operates within the equestrian, extreme cycling and leisure clothing markets.
Commenting on the Texart printer, Paul said: “We looked at other machines, but the quality just wasn’t there and the Roland printers seemed years ahead. The inks are fantastic, producing good, clear print and the machine itself is completely bulletproof.”
Thanks to the quality and efficiency of its workflow, Fatree5 produces tailor-made, uniquely customised sports clothing at fast turnaround speeds – a real boon in a marketplace that previously relied on long runs of apparel that came from abroad. Further, the versatility of Texart dye-sub technology means the company can produce a whole range of coordinated items, with Paul cheerfully remarking that: ‘Anything we can sublimate, we do sublimate!”
Fatree5 is now producing work for a leading British motorcycle manufacturer, whose products are well regarded in the USA, while also fielding enquiries from electric bike manufacturers looking for worldwide distribution.
Paul concluded: “We are always busy and perhaps more importantly, we love what we do and, with Roland’s help we expect the business to go from strength to strength in the future.”
