Fresh Graphics zooms ahead
Having embarked on his career in the graphics sector as a school leaver over two decades ago, Belfast-based Steve Laing always knew he wanted to start his own business. In 2009 the opportunity arose to do just that, and Steve launched his specialist branding and print services company, Fresh Graphics.
However, despite his ambition to start his own business, Steve’s venture hasn’t been without its challenges. A technical issue with a competitor machine cost his company a significant amount of money in terms of ink wastage, which is why he decided to explore alternative options.
After receiving a positive recommendation for Roland DG’s equipment from an industry peer, Steve booked an appointment with Sign+Digital, Roland DG’s certified dealer in Dublin, where he was instantly impressed with the VersaCAMM VSi Series, so much so, that he invested in not just one, but two machines, the VS-540i and the larger VS-640i model.
He said: “Before we invested in the Roland DG machines, we were mainly designing and producing business cards, posters and leaflets for businesses. The addition of the VS-540i and larger VS-640i has meant we now can produce wide-format prints and work that we were previously turning down, such as vehicle liveries, window graphics and signage, are now our main source of income, thanks to the higher profit-margins they can command.”
Less than a year after introducing the two VersaCAMM machines, Fresh Graphics began enjoying record sales and, with volumes of work ever-increasing, Steve has recently invested in the newly launched Roland TrueVIS VG-640 wide-format inkjet printer/cutter a decision that has seen his business achieve new levels of success.
He enthused: “I was instantly drawn to the TrueVIS VG-640 as it is a very professional looking piece of equipment, and its performance didn’t disappoint either. It easily handles our increasing volumes of work with its speed and accuracy, allowing us to deliver even quicker turnaround times for our customers without compromising on quality, which is always 100 percent spot on.”
Now a loyal Roland DG customer for two years and with three Roland DG machines, Steve even plans to invest in another TrueVIS in the near future. Despite being initially attracted by the speed, versatility and output quality the Roland machines can offer, Steve reveals that it is their reliability that really seals the deal.
He concluded: “The best thing about Roland DG is the peace of mind it provides – I know that I don’t have to worry about anything going wrong as the Roland machines are the print equivalent of a supercar!”
