Help the BSGA to set apprenticeship standards

The BSGA is inviting the sign industry to take part in the development of the new apprenticeship standards that will replace those currently in use, in 2018.

David Catanach, Director of the BSGA, has been asked to nominate a minimum of 10 people who are prepared to assist with the formulation of standards that are appropriate for both apprentices’ and employers’ needs.

He explained: “For the time being, these standards will cover England only and the Government has placed the onus for their development on the employers operating within each of the relevant industry sectors.  Accordingly, Cogent (the Sector Skills Council for the sign industry) has asked that the BSGA and sign companies get involved, thus providing us all with an ideal opportunity to ensure that any future standards set are precisely tailored to meet the needs of the whole industry.”

“To kick start this process, Cogent has asked if I can gather together a working group to attend a meeting at its headquarterswhich are conveniently located just off the M6 motorway in Cheshire, south of Manchester. There are no restrictions, other than being able to attend the first meeting, which will be held in July 2015.”

It is understood that Cogent’s initial plan is to first consult on the development the standards and then to create the necessary guidelines with the assistance of the BSGA and the participating companies.
