Imagink quadruples capacity with a Durst Rho printer
Imagink, the Aylesford-based marketing communications provider, has quadrupled its production capacity following its investment in a Durst Rho P10 200 6c + W inkjet printer.
The company, which specialises in the production of point of sale and point of purchase materials, acquired the printer as part of a £325,000 company-wide investment, which was designed to further upgrade its customer-centric approach.
Imagink’s Managing Director, Mike Saunders, who established the company 10 years ago, explained: “Last November we launched our online ordering service, which enables our customers to order point of sale products from their PCs or mobile phones for next day delivery. This helps to make their lives easier, ensures consistency and enables them to keep up to date with their stock levels and ordering volumes, while also effectively helping them to control costs.”
However, it quickly became clear that there was a need to fully support this service, and Imagink’s broader production, with a hardware investment, as the company was becoming non-competitive on longer runs purely in terms of speed.
Mike Saunders observed:” We could compete on costs but not on time.
“We went to Durst’s Austrian headquarters where we ran the press for three hours. The tests I did were based on quality, not just speed, but quality at whatever speeds were run and the Durst Rho P10 200 6c + W achieved both!”
As for the impact the Durst Rho P10 200 6c + W has made, Mike continued: “We have a regular job that took three-and-a-half days to complete on two systems and the Durst completed it in one shift. It has quadrupled our capacity. Now we can do everything on a single shift, which has greatly reduced overtime costs. Our wage expenditure is down between 10 and 15 percent and we have taken on two additional sales staff.”
He added: “The Durst machine is superior in everyway; its quality, speed, ease of use and speedy set up times have all exceeded my expectations. We can now offer the same quick turnaround times as our competitors without any problem at all and it also has positively impacted the range of sizes we can offer. We can now print from business cards to a size of 2m x 4m, in one piece and up to 10mm in thickness.
One of the added benefits of the Durst Rho P10 200 6c + W was the white ink, which has enabled Imagink to win work from the outset.
After confirming that the installation of the Durst was the least problematic that he had experienced, Mike Saunders concluded: “We had three roll-fed solutions with white ink, but the Durst is our only white ink flatbed solution so we have been picking up additional work due to the remarkable opacity of the white. It has been really a good asset to have.”
