Less power, more light

Less power, more light

Zeta Specialist Lighting’s LED solar powered amenity lighting solutions have recently been installed at Nottingham City Council’s Queen’s Drive Park and Ride, in order to enhance visitor comfort and safety.

The site now boasts ten Zeta SolisPOST lights, strategically placed either side of the bus stop shelters to illuminate drop kerb areas and thus  assist wheelchair users when using the facility at night.

Requiring no on-grid connection, the system is specifically designed to capture and store solar power via its integrated PV panel. The SolisPOST runs at a low lighting level continuously and when a pedestrian approaches, its integrated Passive Infra-Red Sensor (PIR) automatically increases the level of illumination, thereby saving energy and reducing light pollution.

The signs that communicate opening times and other visitor information is now also illuminated thanks to Zeta’s new ECOLUX SOLAR. The ECOLUX SOLAR is the first LED trough lighting system for signage that’s entirely powered by solar. Virtually maintenance free and with minimal installation costs, the ECOLUX SOLAR incorporates discreet and flexible PV panels, long life batteries and Zeta’s patented, intelligent Energy Management System to provide optimum, efficient LED illumination.

All of the lighting solutions have been painted in the city’s corporate green colour.

As a member of the Nottingham Green Partnership, Nottingham City Council is committed to meeting the environmental priorities identified in the Nottingham Plan, which sets out a vision for the city that has environmental sustainability at its centre.

Among its key priorities and targets are a pledge to reduce the city’s carbon emissions by 26 percent of 2005 levels by 2020 and to ensure that 20 percent of the energy used in the city will be produced within the Greater Nottingham area from renewable or low/zero carbon sources.

Paul Woodgates, Team Leader, Bus Facilities Team, Public Transport for Nottingham City Council said: “We’re delighted with the solution, the lighting levels are fantastic and it was both cost effective and easy to install. We are especially pleased with the SolisPOST, as the contemporary design makes this system aesthetically pleasing as well as functional.”
