Based in Birmingham, HNS Signs is an award winning sign company, which offers the full gamut of signmaking services, including traditional sign painting techniques, to customers throughout the UK, so when it was commissioned by Yell to provide imaginative wall art for Yell’s Birmingham office, it knew precisely what it needed to do.
Managing Director Michelle Henry is a fourth generation signwriter who believes that wall art can be used toprovide a welcoming environment, while also effectively expressing acompany’s brand and values.
She explained: “Yell asked us to create wall art that would help them to attract the right employees for their company and thus, we were determined to produce a scheme that would help it to connect with both its staff and customers.”
Yell’s brief stipulated the inclusion of a wall mural featuring a cityscape of Birmingham that incorporated both the Yell offices and some of the city’s most iconic modern architecture. Working closely with Yell’s branding agency, Be More Roar, HNS Signs began the daunting task of creating a design to cover a 24-metre wall.
Michelle observed: “Coming up with a design that is consistent with the identity of a well-established brand is no easy matter, but the guys at Yell provided fantastic guidance and, apart from a couple of tweaks, the design for the mural was quickly signed off and we were ready to print.”
In addition to the mural, HNS Signs also devised an eye-catching way to showcase Yell’s company ethos and impressive satisfactionstatistics on a second wall.Fabricated from acrylic to provide a pleasingly tactile appearance, these sleek yellow graphics arealso highly legible.
In order to minimise any disruption to the working day, HNS Signs provided an out-of-hours installation service, starting at
4pm on a Friday. Its preferred decorating company, McWilliams Decorators & Contractors, prepped the walls ready for the printed wallpaper to be applied the following morning. On the Saturday there was a whirl of activity, with the decorators hanging the wallpaper, while HNS Signs’ signwriters were busy applying real gold leaf to complement the arrangement of acrylic signs.
Yell’s Mark Orme was delighted with the end result. He sad: “The transformation is fantastic and we received lots of compliments from our employees. HNS Signs designed and implemented a superb scheme which I’m sure will also impress our future employees too!”
