Mimaki’s JFX200 outperforms everything!

Bristol-based wide-format print specialist, Insight has recently invested in a Mimaki JFX200 UV LED flatbed printer from i-Sub Digital, which was selected because it ‘outperforms everything else in its price range!’

Officially launched in 2010, after Kevin Davidson and co-founder Tom Simpson had completed two years of careful planning, Insight describes itself as a team-focused, customer-centric, high-quality full service print and branding provider, which works closely with design companies or directly with brands on a broad range of projects in the corporate and retail sectors.

Explaining why it had chosen the JFX200, Insight’s Innovation Director, Kevin Davidson said: “ “Although we have gained a reputation for producing bespoke projects, we were still outsourcing some of our work. We really needed to print more in-house so that we could control both the quality and speed of our output and in addition, wealso wanted to print onto a broader range of substrates too.

“Tom and I did some research and it quickly became obvious that the MimakiJFX200 was the perfect machine for us  -not least of all because It outperforms everything else in its price range.”

The JFX200 flatbed printer outputs on to a wide variety of substrates, including 8′ x 4′ rigid boards up to a thickness of 50mm, at up to 1200 dpi, with quality further augmented through variable dot printing down to a four picolitre drop size – and it does all this at a speed of up to 25 square metres an hour!

As well as the primary CMYK ink set, the Mimaki JFX200 ink options include white ink, clear ink, a primer, varnish and a choice of hard, flexible and fully flexible inks for thermo forming applications. And, thanks to its cool, long-life LED lamps, operators can print on to even more substrates, including thin and heat sensitive materials.

Kevin continued: “The Mimaki has really helped us to streamline our production processes.  Nowadays, we can print and prototype a project for customer approval before production goes ahead. This helps us to gain greater insight into the client’s needs and ensures that the print meets the brief in every particular.

“It also enables us to offer lots of special effects, for example, layers of varnish, whichcan be used to create an embossed feel and, as the inks are cured pretty much instantaneously, we can take the printed output straight from the Mimaki to our Zünd digital cutter for finishing without having to worry about cracking and chipping.”

He concluded: “We purchased the Mimaki from the team at i-Sub, after they provided us with a really detailed demonstration. The installation engineers were helpful and knowledgeable too and were always on hand to help, advise and resolve issues. In fact, I was one of the rare times we have dealt with a company that matched our own level of service. When we buy our next machine it will most certainly be a Mimaki and our first call will be to i-Sub!
