Signs Express to sign Preston’s iconic bus station

Signs Express (Central Lancashire) has been commissioned to produce and install 1,500 signs as part of the £23.3 million refurbishment and redevelopment of Preston’s iconic bus station.

Working with main contractor Conlon Construction, Signs Express is re-creating the original sign designs, which were originally installed when the bus station, which is Grade II listed, was first opened in the late 1960s.

It will take Signs Express 12 months to deliver all 1,500 signs.

Ben Hall, Director at Signs Express, said: “The work we have been carrying out has been fascinating as the regeneration project includes restoring a lot of the bus station to its original 1960s look, including the signs and the distinctive numbers on each original bus bay.”

The bus station, which is hailed s an iconic example of Brutalist architecture, is part of a wider regeneration of the area that also includes the creation of a public square and a youth zone.
