Taking on a trio
Graphics Works, a leading graphic and display provider has recently invested in three additional Fujifilm Acuity 1600 LED UV hybrid inkjet wide format printers. The investment follows the success of its initial foray into the LED UV ink market last January, when it acquired its first Acuity LED 1600 printer, a purchase that enabled it to double its production speeds and cut production costs by 20 percent.
The Milton-Keynes based company, which specialises in the production and installation of premium wallpaper coverings for high-end brands across a range of sectors, from hotels to the high street, invested in its first Acuity to help it create robust and visually appealing output that didn’t require a time and cost-intensive post-press coating process.
Such was the immediate impact of the machine that Graphics Works invested in two additional Acuity LED 1600 printers in July and another in October to further enhance its capacity and enable it to meet growing customer demand. The latest three printers will share the workload for all applications, including printing onto wallpaper, plus the production of large format graphics, promotional vinyl and window graphics, while the first Acuity will now be used for short-run carton packaging.
Peter Barham, a Director of Graphics Works explained that Graphics Works invested in its first Acuity LED 1600 once it was satisfied that UV ink was capable of rivalling the quality of solvent, while also delivering a more durable product.
He said: “We had been watching developments in the UV LED ink market for many years, and felt it was the right time to invest. We ran stringent tests on a number of technologies and the Acuity stood out with its UV ink and LED curing capabilities, which ensure stable and consistent print, especially on delicate or difficult materials. Printing on the roll is vital for the majority of our current projects, but actually, its a very versatile printer that will enable us to move into new applications in the future, while the white ink and varnish options have already enabled us to significantly widen our creative parameters.
He concluded: “Since the installation of the first machine, customers have been very impressed by the output quality the Acuity LED can deliver and,as a result demand has dramatically increased – it’s really helped us to grow our business.”
