Tell Design & Print tailors production to demand

Tell Design & Print has installed an HP Latex 115 print and cut solution at its Glasgow premises, with its output to be directed by customer demand.

Owner Thomas Kelly founded Tell Design & Print 14 years ago, having worked in the industry since he was 16 years old. His experience has shown him that business success is based on supply and demand, and on solving problems for customers rather than telling them what they should buy. The new HP Latex 115, installed by SSDOS in September 2019, has so far been used for everything from business cards and letterhead stationery to large format posters and graphics for building sites, but its output may vary considerably in the future.

Kelly explained: “Now the new HP Latex system has been installed we’ll be asking our customers what they want us to print with it. We’re a general printer and work right across the whole range of printed graphics, so the versatility of the Latex 115 really meets our needs as a business.

“We’ll be contacting our existing customers and telling them what the printer can do so they are aware of its potential for them, as well as reaching out to new customers. We can now become a one-stop-shop for businesses such as pubs, clubs and restaurants who will be able to source all of their printed materials from Tell Design & Print.”

The HP Latex 115 has a roll width up to 1.37m and uses HP’s advanced printing and cutting technology and water-based Latex inks to deliver excellent quality, vibrant colours and fast speeds. It is ideal for the production of vehicle, floor and window graphics, wall decals, labels and stickers, and customisable clothing – as well as posters, billboards, indoor and outdoor signage and textile applications.

While Tell Design & Print purchased the system for its printing capabilities, Kelly says its plotting feature ‘is an extra bonus’.

He continued: “We’ve been working with a gin company to print and cut labels for gin bottles. The quality we are now achieving is better than the customer is used to and I was amazed by the intricacy of the cut edges.”

Tell Design & Print has been a user of HP printers for several years, having initially purchased an HP Designjet 500 to bring previously outsourced work, such as pop-ups and banners in-house. It is still in use, mainly for the fast production of A1 and A0 plans for architects’ practices, another niche market for the print provider.
