That’s the spirit!
American Apparelfirst approached Chatham-based PressOn in 2006, when the international fashion retailer opened its first store in Carnaby Street and required a graphics package that included the external fascia,PVC banners for internal use and decorative window treatments.
Since then, PressOn has also been commissioned to provide large Foamex graphics and digital wallpaper for a further eight American Apparel stores and, most recently, has supplied two LED illuminated lightboxes for the company’s Kings Cross store in London.
Lauren Harrold of PressOn explained: “We asked our regular hardware and materials supplier CMYUK to recommend an LED-illuminated lightbox system that would enableAmerican Apparel staff to change the graphics in line with the introduction of new seasonal fashions and/or special promotions, without the need for professional assistance. It suggested we consider the Spirit-TEX aluminium framing system that incorporates an LED lightsheet and provides a flexible and versatile solution, as it offers a greater tolerance in sizing than similar systems of this type.”
PressOn used its EFi VUTEk QS2 Pro printer to output onto Berger Samba textiles, also supplied by CMYUK. Samba can be used in conjunction with UV and Latex ink and is ideal for use in public places as it has the appropriate BS fire rating. The edges of the graphic were then stitched with silicon Kadar edging on PressOn’s Solent Texsew Pro Conveyorline sewing machine, before being simply ‘popped’ into place. The fact that it can be changed just as easily by American Apparel staff whenever required, without the need for a special installation team, will enable the company to enjoy an estimated saving of around £500 per installation.
