The perfect reflection

The perfect reflection

The Manchester School of Art, which is part of Manchester Metropolitan University, has gained a reputation for offering excellent degree courses in art, design, architecture and theatre. Accordingly, theend of year show provides an important ‘shop window’ for the new graduates’ work and as such, the show’s marketing has to reflect that.

Creative studio DR-ME, which was founded by two alumni of the art school, was commissioned to provide the branding for the eventand  decidedto push the boundaries and create something really original featuring metallic, silver and mirrored effects. To this end it enlisted the help of Scan-Stick, the Manchester based large format specialist, which provides print and cut solutions for the creative industries.

The perfect reflection

Chris Scanlon from Scan-Stick explained: “Ever since I first saw Aslan’s SE75 Mirrored film on the Doro Tape UK stand at the Sign & Digital UK exhibition, I’ve been dying to use it! When I held the film up to my face it gave a clear, crisp reflection of my ugly mug, with no rippling or blurring. Since then I’ve been waiting for the right project to present itself and this was definitely it!”

To achieve the required effect, the show’s branding logo ‘This is it’ was printed onto clear film, cut out and applied to the SE75, before being installed on two large windows at the front entrance of the Manchester School of Art’s main reception in the Benzie Building.  Chris’s primary concern was to achieve a perfect finish and thus he opted for a wet installation method.  Even though he was working in less than optimum conditions, he was delighted with the overall effect, which was exactly what DR-ME expected. And, as an added bonus, the second the window was completed, students began using it to take selfies and it has since become the most popular selfie spot in Mnchester!
