Wrapping with the Kaiser Chiefs

Wrapping with the Kaiser Chiefs

Lanarkshire-based vehicle graphics specialist, Ecosse Signs recently wrapped the five Honda Civic Type R track cars used in the Kaiser Chiefs’ video, Hole in my Soul, which was filmed at Scotland’s Knockhillracing circuit.

The vehicle graphics had to replicate the designs that grace the cover of the Kaiser Chief’s single and album, Stay Together, and Ecosse Signs was thus required tore-size the A4 samples of the original artwork so that it could be successfully used to produce vinyl wraps for the five cars featuring in the vides.

Tom Thomson of Ecosse Signs explained that the scaled-up artwork was speedily approved and then the hard work began in earnest, as the company had less than five days to complete the commission and return the cars to Knockhillso that filming could take placeon the following Sunday night.

He said: “We decided to use 3M’s Scotchcal Graphic film with Comply lJ170Cv3 supplied by Spandex, which handles very well and is easy to apply, together with our recently acquired HP Latex printer. Latex printing technology delivers output that is dry to the touch and, since on this occasion, time was against us, the fact that we could overlaminate and apply the films immediately after printing certainly helped to ensure that we met our deadline.

“We gave ourselves a head start by printing as much as we couldbefore the cars arrived and actually managed to finish the last car on the Friday evening, which helped take some pressure off the band’s schedule.“

After filming was completed at the circuit, the decision was taken to leave the graphics on the cars for longer as part of the publicity for the single. As the five Civic Type Rs are resident at the circuit, Knockhill was able to offer visitors the chance to drive the pop-stars’ cars on track, and the customised fleet has since been displayed at several car events in Scotland and England.

Ecosse Signs was delighted to be involved with a project of this calibre and even more so when it entered the project in the 3M and Spandex Cool Cars competition and walked away with the runner-up prize!
