Astley celebrates a decade of growth

Astley, one of the country’s leading suppliers of signage and brand graphics, is celebrating a decade of growth in its custom-built Gateshead headquarters this November.

 

The company moved into two buildings covering a total of 62,000 sq. ft in November 2009, which were specifically designed to support its ambitious set of objectives, many of which have been realised over the past decade.

 

One of these was the aim to support recruitment in the North East of England and accordingly, Astley has increased its workforce by an impressive 30 per cent, now employing 126 people at the Gateshead site, plus a further 36 people at its creative faciilty in Kettering, Northants.

In addition, the company, which services the signage needs of such household names such as Sainsbury’s, BP, The Co-operative, Esso, CRUK, Sky and Hilton, has also invested heavily in a talent attraction programme that has resulted in the recruitment of apprentices for its production, design and marketing departments.

Gavin Redhead, Astley’s Commercial Director, explained: “When we moved into our custom-built facility on Team Valley it was with a clear strategic ambition – to grow and establish Astley as a leading manufacturer within the sign industry.

“Now, as we reflect on the decade since our relocation, there’s no doubt we’ve achieved that, while also expanding our footprint geographically with sites in Glasgow, Leeds and of course Northampton. It’s such an exciting time for us and  very worthwhile evaluating how far we have come, thanks to the superb staff who work across all of our sites.”

Astley’s three company directors will be celebrating again in 2020 to mark the 30th anniversary of the management buyout and other highlights of the company’s evolution including its ISO 14001 accreditation, which now sits alongside the ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090 standards, and the awardi of the CE Marking and BS EN 1090 Marking for Structural Steel stamp of excellence. This latter qualification makes it one of the first sign manufacturers to be awarded this prestigious industry certificate, which serves to reassure clients that their brands are in safe hands.

In late 2018, both Astley and Sign of the Times also triumphed at the British Sign Awards, scooping a collective four wins in the Rollout Illuminated Sign, Craftsman and Innovation categories.

Gavin Redhead concluded: “Our challenge now is to build upon these achievements and to continue to grow as a business by adding to our client portfolio, investing in tnew, equipment and recruiting both experienced and young talent who share our vision for success.”
