Bold, bright and beautiful!

A school in Doncaster has undergone transformation in time for the new academic year thanks to Turner Signs and products from Drytac.

Turner Signs was initially approached by a teacher at Hall Cross Academy who had seen the family-owned sign company’s work on Instagram and felt that it would be able to provide the school with a fresh new look in time to welcome its new head teacher.

Accordingly, Turner Signs used a bold design to brighten up the large empty spaces, which it used across numerous signs, wall wraps and window graphics, which now feature throughout the school.

While Turner Signs has its own in-house design department, it commissioned Ginger Fox Studio to create the necessary artwork using the school’s colours of red, grey, black and white, thus enabling the Barnsley-based signmaker to fully concentrate on the printing and application aspects of the project.

Turner Signs selected Polar Grip from Drytac as its material of choice, using its Mimaki CJV150 integrated printer/cutter to produce the output, a process that took two days, with installation taking place over a further two days on-site.

Drytac’s Polar Grip is a polymeric self-adhesive PVC film with a unique high-bond adhesive that offers five years’ durability in both indoor and outdoor conditions, thus making it the ideal substrate for digitally printed graphics in high-traffic areas such as school corridors.

Curt Turner, Director at Turner Signs, explained: “As we needed a strong adhesive for the wall graphics, which were being applied directly to brickwork, Drytac supplier Sabur Digital recommended Polar Grip. I used a test sample to cover the brick wall in our workshop and it performed so well and was so easy to work that its use was a no-brainer.

Having first been established in 1990 with roots in traditional signwriting, Turner Signs has since become something a specialist in the production of vinyl signs and vehicle wrapping. Curt Turner reported that his team will continue to use Polar Grip for other jobs, including potentially, further wall graphics in another area of the Hall Cross Academy building.

He said: “We were really impressed with the material – so much so that we may even print our own design to enhance our workshop, which will serve as a signcase for both our expertise and the efficacy of Polar Grip!”
