Dazzling illumination at Winter Lights festival

For this year’s Winter Lights festival in central London, Applelec worked in collaboration with Lighting Designer Balint Bolygo from Kinetech Design to create a new, neon-style installation for the celebrated lighting event.

Held in one of London’s major business districts, Winter Lights returned for its fifth year, illuminating Canary Wharf with 21 unique, interactive light artworks and innovative lighting technologies. For the festival, Applelec’s NeonLux product was selected to recreate the Winter Lights’ light installation, replacing the previous fragile neon glass version.

Balint Bolygo, commented: ‘For this year’s event, the change from the delicate, neon glass to Applelec’s NeonLux product helped us to better align with the interactivity theme of Winter Lights. By providing visitors with the freedom to explore, the new light installation provided a tactile element that enabled them to get hands-on and take photos with the light piece, thus achieving a buzz of activity at the entrance to the event.’

Crafted from acrylic, the Winter Lights installation was positioned on a rustic metal mesh framework, where the mounted light art created the illusion of a sleek, floating design. Delivering striking illumination, the installation featured crisp white, 6500K SloanLED LED modules where the bright light dazzled through the opal face of the piece, creating an attention grabbing light feature at the gateway to the event.

Andy Armitage, National Product Manager for Applelec’s Display Division said: ‘NeonLux delivers precision of design and the artwork for the new installation was created with rounded ends to faithfully mirror the style of the previous neon glass piece. The powerful luminosity of the LEDs achieved an impactful and eye-catching entrance feature, helping to further draw people to the Winter Lights event.’

As an added bonus, the durability of Applelec’s neon-style product also provided a reusable installation for future Winter Lights events.
