When London based interior decor company Designer Colours wanted to rebrand and update the signage at its large premises in Mill Hill, it commissioned W&Co to assist.

The brief decreed that the tired old signage needed to be removed and replaced with something more stylish that would attract new customers and boost Designer Colours’ visibility in the area. Accordingly, WCo recommended that the old signage be replaced with three Flex Face signs, comprising a large 21-metre canopy sign, together with a smaller stencil cut sign tray, 5.4-metres in length.

The three flex face signs, which cover an entire wall on the left hand side of the main building, have been painted to match the slate grey exterior, with the largestof the three being installed directly above the shop window. This sign features a very colourful graphic depicting the goods and services available in store. The two smaller signs, which are installed on either side of the large sign, represent the brands available in store, as well as providing information on opening hours.

The impressive main sign tray covers three sides of a canopy that overhangs the customer car park in the centre of the premises. The main section of the sign, which is over 17m long, is wrapped in printed vinyl and features panel mounted built up halo-illuminated letters bearing the legend ‘design colours’.

This is further enhanced with the addition of nine brightly coloured 3D cubes that are formed from different coloured acrylic and illuminated on all sides. This design has also been mirrored on the right hand side of the sign tray so that passers-by can see the business name from all angles.

On the right hand side of the premises there is another entrance to the shop that also required a replacement sign. Designer Colours chose to have another vinyl wrapped sign tray to match the main canopy sign, but instead of built up letters,it selected stencil cut detail backed in illuminated acrylic to create a simple and elegant finish.

Designer Colours also commissioned the installation of two freestanding locakableposter cases that can be easily updated whenever required. These boards are installed close to the roadside and are strategically angled so that traffic coming from both directions can easily see the advertisements.

The end result is a contemporary and eye-catching sign package that fulfils all of the criteria set out in the original brief, while also enhancing the surrounding environment.
