For the love of scrubs…

Large format print solutions supplier Perfect Colours is printing A0 sewing patterns for home sewers to make the nursing scrubs needed urgently by the NHS during the COVID-19 outbreak, using its HP PageWide XL to get the job done at ultra-high speeds.

HP is covering the cost of printing and shipping the patterns to assist the nationwide project.

The HP Large Format Team asked Perfect Colours to offer the service via the ‘For The Love Of Scrubs – Our NHS Needs You’ group on Facebook. Set up by A&E nurse Ashleigh Linsdell, the group connects hospitals and GP surgeries in vital need of scrubs with people with the sewing skills to make them at home.

In an interview with Sky News, Ashleigh explained that having seen a need for these scrubs she set about searching for wholesale quantities of the correct fabrics to make some herself. The response to her post on Facebook asking for supplier recommendations led to her setting up the For The Love Of Scrubs group. “I was completely inundated with Facebook messages and comments asking to help and how they could […] help further,” she told the news channel.

A0-sized patterns are required to make the scrubs to the right dimensions – which is where Perfect Colours can help.

As an HP Platinum Partner, Perfect Colours has an HP PageWide XL 5100 and XL 3600 installed at its Innovation Centre in Sheffield. The systems are normally used to demonstrate their printing capabilities but this week they have been called into action for the NHS.

“The NHS is doing an incredible job tackling the coronavirus crisis and people at home want to do anything they can to help,” said Jason Burroughs, Managing Director, Perfect Colours. “There’s an urgent need for new scrubs and thousands of people ready to sew them, they just need the A0 patterns. We’re delighted and honoured to help that effort by printing the sewing patterns on our super-fast HP PageWide.”

Sewists from the For The Love Of Scrubs – Our NHS Needs You group have already been in touch with Perfect Colours to show their appreciation for the service.
