Sign & Digital UK unveils the SDUK Explains Lounge
 The organiser of the Sign & Digital UK (SDUK) exhibition has now announced the programme for the SDUK Explains Lounge at the 2022 show, which returns to Birmingham’s NEC 22nd-24th March 2022.  

The SDUK Explains Lounge, in partnership with ISA, will feature a rolling programme of business and technical advice sessions that are designed to help visitors to keep up with the changing market, gain insight to strengthen and grow their businesses, and identify new revenue opportunities.

The programme has been developed to include real-world case studies and interactive presentations in an informal space where advice and information can be freely exchanged.

All of the sessions are free to attend and there’s no need to book. Visitors can find a full line-up on the website ahead of the show. Sessions will include:

Is recruiting and retaining staff causing you pain? 

Join this session to gain fresh ideas on how to find, keep and motivate staff. Recruitment and staff retention remains a topic that impacts much of the industry in terms of both time and money. ISA will discuss traditional and non-traditional methods of attracting the right people along with training and support to help their personal development and business growth.  The speakers will include Craig Brown, the CEO of ISA-UK, Dan Tyler, the CEO of Vism, Jeff Bufton, the Head of Operations, Signs Express.

 Is your business in the best shape today and for what the future holds?  

This open forum session is designed to help people get their business into shape, to share experiences, both good and bad, and to learn about best practices adopted by successful businesses in the sign and print industry. It will cover financing options, growth and exit strategies, and look at best practices adopted by successful and forward-thinking business owners. Speakers will include Sam Armstrong, the Managing Director of the Make it Happen Signage Consultancy, David Allen, Managing Director of Allen Signs and Craig Brown, the CEO of ISA-UK.

 Social media and effective marketing 

Social media can be a fantastic vehicle for engaging with a customer base and potential customers. This session will look at real-life examples from the industry with feedback and experiences of the subtle changes taking place across the media platforms. Gary Bagstaff, the Director of Print Sauce Associates will direct this session.

Diversifying and thriving in a changing marketplace 

Successful businesses adapt and react to a changing market place and this session is designed to provide pointers and advice on lessons learned from business owners who have thrived during the last 18 months.

It will also discuss how the sign and graphics market is evolving, the influences that are driving that change, and how companies can capitalise on the opportunities presented.  Speakers will include Gary Richardson, the Managing Director and owner of Ash Signs & Engraving, Carlo Matarazzo, the Director of Signs Now UK, Sam Armstrong, the Managing Director of Make it Happen Signage Consultancy.

 Save time and money: How to choose the correct adhesive or tape for your Sign Project

Eurobond Adhesives will be in the lounge to explain how to select the correct adhesive or tape for a specific sign project. Join the session to learn how to employ the correct surface preparation techniques, the benefits and disadvantages of different adhesive types, how bonded joint designs can improve or degrade adhesive performance and how temperature, the environment and weather affect bonded materials. Kevin Henry and Andy Sabine, Technical Managers at Eurobond Adhesives will head this session.

 Women in Signs & Graphics
The Sign industry has traditionally been a male-dominated industry but with more females now joining, running, and influencing it, what can be done to encourage more women into the trade and support those already working in it?

The Women in Signs and Graphics group is working to do just that. Founded in December 2020 at SDUK. Its vision is to inspire, encourage and promote women in the industry. Those who would like to help women fast-track their careers, or learn how women can be better supported in the workplace, should attend this session and meet the founders. Sarah Winterbottom and Izabella Ivanovici, plus other inspirational women, will all be sharing their experiences.

Essential Tools for Garment Decoration

This workshop will offer useful technical tips on how to how to make garment decoration faster, easier, and more beautiful. The expert presenter will demonstrate how to create fast conversion of bitmaps to vectors, how to speed up a workflow and how to work with templates, layers, colour, colour styles and models.

In addition, Suzanne Smith, Corel Product Trainer and Specialist will be demonstrating CorelDRAW’s latest features.
