Sign Directions announces the death of Maurice Hoare

Maurice-4It is with a great deal of sadness and shock that Sign Directions announces the sudden death of its former Advertising Manager, Maurice Hoare, at the age of 68.

Maurice was a well-known and much-loved industry figure, having completed two stints as Exhibition Manager of Sign & Digital UK, the first in the early 80s, when the show was acquired by Miller Freeman from Expo Consult and then again in the early 2000s, when it was taken over by Faversham House Group.  He joined Sign Directions as Advertising Manager in 2004 and did much to promote the continued success of the magazine until his retirement in 2010.

Maurice-2Always a man who thoroughly enjoyed outdoor activities, such as hiking, climbing and kayaking, for Maurice a relaxing retirement just wasn’t an option and he spent most of the last four years rediscovering his passion for cycling.  He cycled great distances everyday, only deterred by the thickest snow, when he would hike or climb instead. He also packed in a great many trips and adventures, last year cycling from Land’s End to John ‘O Groats with his wife Fran, over two weeks during the summer.

This year his eagerly anticipated holiday was a cycling tour of south-west France, again with Fran, which is where he died on 29thJuly.  It is some small comfort to know that his sudden death, from a heart attack, was mercifully swift and it is unlikely that he knew anything about it.

Maurice-3Maurice was a truly lovely man, a wonderful colleague and a kind friend to many and his passing, which tragically came much too soon, will leave a space that can never be filled.  We will all miss him terribly.

Our thoughts and love go to Fran and their children, Jenny, Becky and Mike.

A notice relating to funeral arrangements will follow in due course, but meanwhile, please address all enquiries to Val Hirst on Tel: 01623 882398 or via e-mail at signdirections@btconnect.co.uk
