Signs Express Bath is going green!

Signs Express Bath has become a member of The Planet Mark Sustainability scheme, which is designed to help improve the sustainability of businesses in the Wiltshire, Somerset and South Gloucestershire area.

It is the scheme’s contention that every business can have a positive impact on society and the environment and that when it comes to sustainability, we all have a part to play.  To learn how to implement its proposals, Mark Collins, owner of Signs Express (Bath), attended a Planet Mark Start! Workshop and came away with a sustainability business plan to help the centre reduce its negative impact on the local and global environment.

Accordingly, Signs Express (Bath) has agreed to work on three main areas of change, namely the recycling of non-commercial plastic and cardboard waste, the usage of vinyls with a reduced plastic content and the addition of a biodegradable product to its range.

Mark confirmed that the centre has already actioned this plan and reported:

”We have installed a recycling unit for our rubbish that enables us to separate our recyclable waste from general waste, which is then recycled on a weekly basis.

In addition, we have also sourced a new vehicle wrap vinyl that is made using a non-PVC polymer material and a phthalate-free film. This enables us to offer an eco-friendly alternative to our customers, instead of traditional PVC vinyl for their vehicle graphics.

Finally, we have sourced a new FSC certified, 100 percent biodegradable board, Eco Board, which is a perfect alternative to soft foam boards, foam PVC and plastic composites. It is ideal for use as hoardings, short-term promotional posters and advertising materials and is also reusable – in fact, it can be recycled up to eight times! At the end of its useful life, it is compostable and biodegradable, thus allowing it to be disposed of in the normal paperboard waste stream.

He added: ‘We are now adding more eco-friendly materials to our substrate range in order to provide customers with a greater choice of sustainable options. All these small changes can help make a real impact on our local community and environment and are helping to make us a more ecologically aware company.”
