Snooker’s Steve Davis to host Sign Awards

Snooker’s Steve Davis to host Sign Awards

The BSGA has announced that British Sign Awards will return to the Athena Centre in Leicester on Thursday, 8th November and this year will be hosted by Steve Davis, former world professional snooker champion and now a much-in-demand after dinner speaker and TV personality.

Commenting on this news, David Catanach, Director of the BSGA, said: “We are delighted that Steve has agreed to host this year’s event, which once again will have Signfab UK in partnership with Current by GE as the main sponsor.

“Our other confirmed sponsors include Epson, Roland DG, Blackburns Metals, Trade Etching Direct and Wilson Access Services. Others are pending, but there are still a couple of awards categories available and if any other sign-related business wants to be involved in this unique event we’d be happy to talk to them.

“Having Steve Davis as the host gets this year’s awards off to an excellent start,” he added “He had a remarkable career in snooker, winning no less than 71 major titles and becoming the sport’s first millionaire.

“He continued to play at the highest levels right up to his retirement from the game in 2016 and is now a commentator on snooker and a regular quiz show guest, as well as an extremely popular DJ known as Thundermuscle.

“The Athena proved almost universally popular with sponsors and guests who participated in the 2017 edition of  Sign Awards, with virtually all attendees giving the venue excellent ratings for its ambience, food and service. We’re changing a couple of things this year to create more space for the reception and sponsors’ showcase.

“We will also be starting the event a little later this year, kicking-off the reception at 1.00pm, instead of mid-day, which means we will finish at around 6.30pm, thus enabling guests to miss the worst of Leicester’s rush-hour.

“Based on feedback from entrants, changes have also been made to some award categories and full details, together with the first call for entries will be published on the awards website ( in March.”

He added: “The closing date for entries will be in early September, but we suggest that any company wishing to enter for an award, does so as soon as their project is complete and is fresh in their minds, rather than waiting until the last minute.”
