The Sign Shed uses sheep to keep Yorkshire safe!

First founded four years ago, The Sign Shed has since established itself as one of the UK’s leading online suppliers of health and safety signage and, after doubling its turnover year upon year, it is currently planning to move into new purpose-built premises, where its Roland VersaUV S-Series LEC-330S-F200 printer will take pride of place.

The land VersaUV S-Series LEC-330S-F200 is an incredibly versatile UV printer, which can be used to print onto virtually any flexible or rigid substrate or object up to 200mm in height and 100kg/sqm in weight. It is the ideal choice for The Sign Shed, which previously printed graphics and letters onto vinyl for application onto signage materials.

However, using the LEC 330S it can now print accurate CMYK, white and gloss directly onto typical signmaking substrates, such as composite aluminum, rigid plastics, Foamex and Corex, thus removing the requirement for vinyl application and making the whole process speedier. At the same time, this enables The Sign Shed to use its Roland TrueVIS VG-540 printer/cutter for other work, including sticker production.

Commenting on the company’s use of Roland hardware, Rob Haywood, a director of The Sign Shed, said: “We’ve used Roland printers from the start, beginning with a Roland BN-20, so we know that Roland is a brand we can trust. Our customers expect the best and we want them to be proud of their signage, so we rely on Roland to deliver top quality. Our customers also want a fast turnaround and the acquisition of the LEC 330S has reduced manufacturing times by as much as three-quarters.”

When asked why his company selected the S-Series printer, Rob responded: “It’s important that we have the most up-to-date technology possible and, as well as using the latest UV inks, the LEC 330S will also fit very neatly into our new premises!”

Based in the heart of the White Rose county, The Sign Shed is proud of its Yorkshire roots, a sentiment that is echoed in its latest marketing campaign, which is fronted by Hamish and Sid the Safety Sheep, stars of entertaining but informative animated videos that serve to show how workplace hazards can be eliminated and make Yorkshire a safer place.

It was after launching the Hazards Sheep Eliminate (HSE) campaign that The Sign Shed decided to enter the Roland Hero Awards.

“Roland Heroes is all about businesses doing things a little out of the ordinary with their Roland equipment,” observed Rob. “We saw the competition and thought, ‘That’s us!’ We’re offering a quality service from Yorkshire with a little help from our Safety Sheep.”

The Sign Shed has purchased all of its Roland equipment from Roland supplier printMAX, which according to Rob, has always offered a good level of service and aftercare. He concluded: “Like us, they are down to earth and friendly and I’d happily recommend both printMax and the Roland kit to anyone.”
